sideways_cowboy Sonoran Trails Power Line Issue Issue to be reviewed at Cave Creek School District Events in June In the month of June you have several opportunities to provide input to help correct the Power Line issue at Sonoran Trails Middle School. We need your support. Especially at the forum on June 18th at the Fine Arts Center. (For background on the Power Line issue at Sonoran Trails please go to: http://sfsa.onmycity.com/)
The CCUSD93 Governing Board is staging two forums and a meeting in June to get input from the community on the Power Line Issue at STMS. 6:00 p.m. at Sonoran Trails Middle School 5555 E. Pinnacle Vista in the Mini-Auditorium. (We should have a good turn out. Please try to come out and speak.)
Governing Board Meeting: June 12, 2007 6 p.m. at Old Black Mountain Elementary School Site. 7:00 p.m. at the Fine Arts Center 33606 N. 60th Street (This meeting will be very important. We need as many people as possible to attend this meeting to show support for including the Power Line issue.)
The Governing Board is seeking input from members of the community on whether the power lines issue should be bundled into the renovation/site improvement bond. "Students First....Safety Always”, is a community-based organization that believes the best interests of the children attending STMS will be served by including the power lines issue into the renovation/site improvement plan. Please plan on attending one of the forums or the Governing Board meeting and let the board know that you want the power lines issue bundled with all the other issues in the renovation/site improvement bond. If you cannot attend an event, please write the board a letter or an email. Tell them that you want the Power Line issue bundled into the renovation/site improvement bond. Separating the Power Lines issue and all the other issues out will complicate and severely threaten all renovations and site improvements issues. That will be a disaster for our community. Organization Seeks Reduction in Electromagnetic Field Levels at Cave Creek School
CAVE CREEK -- “Students First....Safety Always” is a community-based organization whose goal is to see the administration of the Cave Creek Unified School District mitigate the high electromagnetic field (EMF) levels generated by high-power transmission lines that traverse the campus of Sonoran Trails Middle School.
“Students First….Safety Always” is comprised of community members who are concerned about the health effects of EMF levels on students and faculty at the school, located at 5555 E. Pinnacle Vista. An independent audit commissioned earlier this year by the district revealed that EMF levels exceeded those associated with an increased risk of childhood leukemia in children under 14.
On Sept. 26, upon the recommendation of Superintendent Tacy Ashby, the district’s governing board voted 4-1 against relocating the transmission lines, citing inconclusive evidence of any possible health risks. In a May 2006 superintendent’s letter to district staff, parents, students, and the community, which is available at www.ccusd93.org/District/SuptLetter/archive/may2006.html , Ashby cited the following:
“As part of the new school construction process, the District and its architects must perform due diligence on properties before they are built in order to ensure all safety measures are addressed. . . Currently, with WAPA’s (Western Area Power Association) assistance, we are working on a suitable solution that will mitigate this situation. Although no state or federal regulations exist regarding EMF levels, the members of the Governing Board and Administration felt strongly about making sure that no potential safety hazards would occur.”
