Subject: power lines
Dear CCUSD Board Members and Superintendent Ashby,
I too am a concerned parent. We live in the Cave Creek School District, and my child currently attends Lone Mountain Elementary School, PALS program for Special Needs. My son was born with Cancer. During his first year of life he had to endure, several surgeries, chemo-therapy and ultimately a Bone Marrow Transplant.
We were told prior to his first round of chemo, that as an infant, his course of treatment was going to set him back developmentally. Consequently, he requires, and will continue to require, special services from the School District. Unfortunately, there was no other alternative, if we were going to have a shot at curing his cancer.
When it came time to sign the Release Form for the Bone Marrow Transplant, my Husband and I were informed that once my Son received the Transplant, he would be at a higher risk of acquiring Leukemia. Once again, the benefits out weighed the risks at the time. Although my son is currently cancer free, he requires a plethora of tests, including an MRI, that must be performed annually. To this day many nights of sleep are lost, and countless prayers are made, while awaiting the results of these tests.
I can say, with out a shadow of doubt, that as long as the Power Lines remain where they are, my Son will never attend Sonoran Trails Middle School, regardless of the special accommodations that will need to be made. In addition, I would not wish the hardships that my Family has had to endure, and will continue to endure, over the course of my son's lifetime, on anyone. I will strongly advocate to everyone that I come in contact with, that as long as there is even the slightest bit of doubt, that they not take the risk, by sending there children to Sonoran Trails.
Please consider this my e-mail of concern! I strongly encourage you to re-visit this issue, and take the necessary actions to make Sonoran Trails a safe environment for all of our children.
Thank you,
Zina Parfet
