Subject: Power lines
Dear CCUSD Board Members & Superintendent Ashby,
After reading the outpouring of letters and concerns, I felt I too needed to be a proactive parent in the matter of revisiting the issue of the powerlines. This is not just a school issue, it is a community isssue. Everyone in our district will be affected by the tragic long range results of not moving the lines in this community.
It is well stated by many of the parents that have done extensive research, experienced for themselves, or feel for the kids in the matter at hand, that the close proximity of the powerlines to STMS is an unsafe enviornment for staff and students there. I, being a parent of two children at Horseshoe Trails, and a future parent at STMS, question the board's beliefs in our district's mission statement. It states that "All children shall receive a safe learning enviornment."
I pose the question to each of you: How can we question what is safe and not safe when dealing with children? ANY risk to a child, from the smallest to the greatest, is reason enough to take action and prevent a future of heartache and pain to our children and our families at CCUSD. The community is aware of the millions approved in the first year of HTES for upkeep and matainance to the three new schools being built by our district. We are also aware of the $3 million alotted for improvements. And lastly we are also aware of the $1.4 million cost to move the power lines. We as community do not see why this has become such hard sell for our board members to grasp.
Safety first, is what is preached, and should be followed when our children are at stake. Please revisit this issue for the simple fact that our children need the safety that they were promimised when entering there educational career at CCUSD.
Thank you for your time,
Jennifer Chmura
